Cristiano Toraldo di Francia
In December 1966 Cristiano Toraldo di Francia founds in Florence the Superstudio. His work of research and of refounding of the language of architecture and design has been documented by many international publications and it has been presented in many museums and art exhibitions: from the Triennale of Milan (1973) to the Biennale of Venice (1978-1996-2014), from the Museum of Modern Art (1972-2002) to the Metropolitan Museum of New York (1976), to FRAC (2004), to MAXXI in 2011. The drawings and projects of architecture, together with design objects, are parts of many public and private permanent collections. In 2000 the Centre Pompidou acquired in its archive a substantial part of the projects and of the photo montages.
He has drawn for and collaborated with Anonima Castelli, Breda, Calzolari, Fasem, Flos, Giovannetti, Palagio, Pica, Poltronova, Zanotta. Some of his projects belong to the history of design: the Integrated Wall System for Anonima Castelli, the series of tables “Quaderna” for Zanotta, the bodywork and the interior for the train “Circumvesuviana” for Railway Breda, the modular seating “Franny” for Fasem, the seating “Circo” for Calzolari, the ventilated tile wall “Terra” for Palagio, the ceramics for Dolfi, the silver for Pampaloni, the system of fittings-out for pharmacies for Ataena. He has designed the fitting-out of interiors and of displaying spaces: for the FS he has realized the Statuto Railway station in Florence, the refitting of the Railway station of Rignano with the related Municipality Square and the new refitting of the Railway station of Ancona.
In 1992 he took part in the foundation of the Faculty of Architecture of the Marche Region, University of Camerino, headquarter of Ascoli Piceno, for which he has been an associated Professor of Architectural Planning, of Landscape Planning and of Industrial Design.
He has published many texts of Architecture and he runs the series “Signs and Drawings” for the publishing house Alinea. He is a member of the scientific committee of Inarch Marche and of the commission of ADI Index for the regional delegation for the Marche, Abruzzo and Molise regions.
Since 2011 he has been editorial director of the magazine “Mappe”, which establishes itself as observatory and tool of aggregation among designers, the world of entrepreneurship and the cultural production of the Marche region.
